Description

A delightful no-bake dessert featuring layers of angel food cake, creamy cheesecake filling, and fresh berries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (3.4 oz) packages instant cheesecake flavored pudding mix (about 85g each)
  • 4 cups milk (960ml)
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold (360ml)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar (90g)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (10ml)
  • Angel food cake (about 12 oz or 340g), cut into pieces
  • 1 cup chopped strawberries (150g)
  • 1 cup blueberries (150g)
  • 1 cup raspberries (150g)
  • Additional berries for decorating

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pudding: Start by whisking together the pudding mix and milk in a large bowl until it thickens. You will know it is ready when it is creamy and smooth. Be careful not to overmix, or it can become too watery.
  2. Chill the Pudding: Let the pudding sit in the fridge for about 5 to 10 minutes. This chilling time helps the texture, making it easier to layer.
  3. Layer the Ingredients: In a trifle dish, begin layering by first adding a scoop of pudding, then a layer of angel food cake pieces, and followed by a handful of mixed berries. Take care not to press down too hard to maintain the beautiful layers.
  4. Repeat Layers: Continue adding layers until you run out of ingredients. Alternate layers of pudding, cake, and berries, finishing with a layer of berries on top for a stunning presentation.
  5. Chill Again: Place the assembled trifle into the fridge for at least 2 to 3 hours. This allows the flavors to mingle and the layers to set properly.
  6. Serve & Enjoy: When ready to serve, scoop out portions gently to enjoy the lovely layers without disturbing them too much.

Notes

  • Storage Tips: Store covered in the fridge and consume within 1-3 days.
  • Expert Tips: If pudding seems too runny, make sure to whisk the pudding mix and milk for at least two minutes until fully combined.
  • When the layers start to slide, give the trifle an extra chill time of 30 minutes to help it firm up.
  • For a fresh taste, opt for seasonal berries, using about one cup each of strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.
  • If using frozen berries, remember to thaw and thoroughly drain them to prevent excess moisture from making the trifle soggy.
  • Reheating Instructions: There is no need for reheating as this is a no-bake dessert and is served chilled.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve with a sprig of mint on top.
  • Pair with lemonade or iced tea for a refreshing drink.
  • Present in individual glasses for easier serving.
  • Recipe Variations: Replace angel food cake with pound cake for a denser option.
  • Use diced peaches or nectarines as additional fruit for variation.
  • Add a layer of chocolate pudding for richness.
  • Ingredient Notes: For best results, use fresh, ripe seasonal berries.
  • Substitute cheesecake flavored pudding with vanilla pudding if desired; the measurement remains the same.
  • Cool Whip can be used instead of heavy whipping cream, using 12 oz (340g).
