Description
This Easy Garlic Basil Mayo is a quick preparation of creamy mayo infused with fresh basil and garlic.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup mayonnaise, any type
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
- 21/2 teaspoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 large garlic clove, minced
- 1/41/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
Instructions
- Mix Mayonnaise & Garlic: Start by tossing your mayonnaise and minced garlic together in a bowl. Mix well to achieve a smooth blend without clumps, as the aroma of garlic fills the air.
- Add Basil & Lemon Juice: Add the finely chopped fresh basil leaves and squeeze in the lemon juice. This brightens the mayo with the vibrant green of the basil. Ensure that the basil is chopped well to maintain a good texture.
- Season & Taste: Sprinkle some salt into your mixture and stir thoroughly. Taste the mayo, ensuring the garlic, basil, and lemon flavors are harmonious. If it tastes flat, adjust by adding a pinch more salt or a bit more minced garlic.
- Store & Chill: Transfer the prepared mayo into an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This chilling time allows the flavors to meld together. Make sure it is covered to prevent the basil leaves from browning.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Ensure it is sealed well to maintain freshness.
- For a thicker mayo, you can add a1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice to adjust the consistency without changing the flavor. If the flavor is too mild, try increasing the garlic by half a clove for more zest. For the freshest taste, use basil straight from your garden rather than store-bought.
- Reheating is not applicable since this mayo is served cold.
- Spread the garlic basil mayo on sandwiches and burgers, use as a dip for fresh vegetables, or mix it into pasta salads for an extra flavorful twist.
- Replace basil with dill for a different flavor. Add a pinch of chili flakes for some spice, or incorporate sun-dried tomatoes for a Mediterranean touch.
- Select fresh basil for the best flavor. If unavailable, parsley, dill, or cilantro can serve as substitutes.
