Description

A warm and comforting Cinnamon Apple Baked Oatmeal perfect for breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups (240g) old fashioned oats, uncooked
  • 21/2 teaspoons (4g) cinnamon
  • 11/2 teaspoon (5g) baking powder
  • 1/41/2 teaspoon (1.5g) salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • 1 cup (240g) unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) maple syrup OR brown sugar
  • 21/2 teaspoons (10ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (300g) chopped apple, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup (60g) chopped pecans
  • Optional: 21/2 teaspoons (10ml) pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare Dish: Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. As it warms up, grab your favorite baking dish and lightly grease it. This little step makes it easier to serve later. Do not skip this, or you might end up with quite a sticky mess!
  2. Mix Ingredients Together: In a big mixing bowl, stir together your oats, diced apples, cinnamon, and any sweetener you are using. The aroma of cinnamon will fill your kitchen in no time. Just be careful not to overmix; too much stirring can make the texture off.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Pour in your milk and vanilla extract, gently folding it into the dry mix until everything is nicely coated. You will want to see a creamy consistency with the oats soaking in that liquid. Avoid overdoing it, or you will risk a mushy bake!
  4. Pour & Smooth: Transfer the mixture into your greased baking dish, ensuring it is spread evenly. Take a moment to admire how colorful it looks with the apples peeking through. Remember, if it is not level now, it might bake unevenly!
  5. Bake & Enjoy Aroma: Slide the dish into your preheated oven and let it bake for about 30 minutes. You will know it is done when the top is golden brown and the smell of cinnamon apples wafts through your space. Just keep an eye on it to avoid overbaking!
  6. Cool & Slice: Once baked, let it cool for a bit before slicing into squares. The texture should be firm yet tender. Resist the urge to dig in right away; perfectly slicing is a lot easier when it has had a little time to set!

Notes

  • Storage Tips: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave before serving.
  • Expert Tips: If your oatmeal seems too dry after baking, try cutting the baking time by about 5 minutes and check for doneness often.
  • When baking in a muffin pan, aim for 15 minutes of baking time for individual portions that are easy to serve and enjoy.
  • If the dish ends up being sweeter than you like, consider using less maple syrup or brown sugar next time, adjusting to your taste.
  • For optimal texture, using old-fashioned oats is key; quick oats can lead to a less cohesive bake.
  • If you are dicing apples, keep them around 1/4 inch for a good size that is easy to bite into and distributes well throughout the oatmeal.
