Description

Quick and easy air fryer sweet potatoes that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lb (0.9 kg) Sweet potatoes, unpeeled (46 medium)
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) Olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 1 tsp (5 g) Dried oregano
  • 1 tsp (5 g) Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5 g) Paprika
  • 3/4 tsp (4.5 g) Sea salt (plus more to taste at the end)
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5 g) Black pepper (plus more to taste at the end)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Start by preheating your air fryer. You want it nice and hot, around 375 degrees F, which helps achieve that crisp texture on the sweet potatoes. Give it about three to five minutes before you add anything. If you skip this step, your sweet potatoes might turn out a bit soggy.
  2. Season the Sweet Potatoes: Once you’ve got the sweet potatoes cut into wedges, toss them with your favorite seasonings and a splash of oil for flavor. You will want that wonderful aroma wafting through your kitchen. This adds a bit of zest and keeps the wedges from drying out. Do not overdo the oil, or they might get greasy instead of crispy.
  3. Arrange in the Basket: Place the sweet potato wedges in the air fryer basket, making sure they are not piled on top of each other. Spread them out in a single layer to help them crisp evenly. If they are too crowded, some will end up soft. This way, you are looking for that beautiful golden color all over.
  4. Cook & Shake it Up: Cook the wedges for about 15 to 20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. You will know they are close when you start smelling that sweet potato goodness. Give them a shake to help with even cooking and browning. Just be careful not to open it too often, or you will lose that heat.
  5. Check for Crispiness: When the time is almost up, check if they are crispy enough for your liking. If they need a bit more time, throw them back in for a few more minutes. Keep an eye on them, though, or they might get too soft. When they are golden and crispy, you know they are ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • Storage Tips: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the air fryer for best results.
  • Expert Tips: Cut all wedges to a similar thickness for even cooking. Aim for uniform thickness of about 1 inch to promote even cooking. Soaking potatoes in water for 30 minutes can enhance crispiness. Make sure to dry them well after washing and slicing. For a slight extra crunch, soak the cut potatoes in water for 30 minutes before drying and air frying them. Cook in batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Turning the pieces twice during cooking will help achieve an evenly golden-brown exterior.
  • Reheating Instructions: Reheat in the air fryer at 320 degrees F for best results.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve alongside air fryer proteins like chicken or fish. Pair with a fresh salad for a complete meal. Dip in ranch dressing or tahini for added flavor.
  • Recipe Variations: Replace paprika with chili powder for a spicy kick. Mix in cinnamon for a sweet twist. Try using fresh herbs instead of dried.
  • Ingredient Notes: You can substitute olive oil with avocado oil as per your preference. When selecting sweet potatoes, choose ones that are firm with no soft spots or blemishes for the best flavor and texture.
