Description

Crispy and flavorful air fryer chicken drumsticks, perfect for a quick weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 (1.3 kg) chicken drumsticks, skin-on
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) paprika
  • 1/21/2 teaspoon (2g) cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon (8g) garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon (8g) onion powder
  • 11/2 teaspoon (1g) dried oregano
  • 11/2 teaspoon (2g) ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon (8g) corn starch
  • 11/2 teaspoon avocado oil spray

Instructions

  1. Season & Arrange Drumsticks: Start by seasoning the drumsticks with salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, ground coriander, and corn starch. Toss them in a bowl so every piece is well-coated. Ensure they are not touching too much to allow for proper crisping during cooking.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer: While prepping the drumsticks, preheat the air fryer for a few minutes. You want it to be hot when the chicken goes in. The sizzling sound when the drumsticks hit the basket is satisfying. Ensure the air fryer is set correctly; if it is not hot enough, the chicken might come out soggy.
  3. Cook for 22 Minutes: Place the seasoned drumsticks in the air fryer and cook them for 22 minutes. Enjoy the aroma as they cook! Halfway through, give them a quick shake or turn to ensure even cooking. Keep a close eye on the timer to avoid overcooking.
  4. Check Temperature Carefully: Use a digital thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. This ensures that your chicken is fully cooked and juicy inside. Avoid cutting into the meat to check as this will cause it to lose its juices.
  5. Rest & Serve: Allow the drumsticks to rest for about 5 minutes after removing them from the air fryer. This resting time helps retain their juiciness. Enjoy while they are warm, but be cautious as they will be steamy hot.

Notes

  • Storage Tips: Store leftover drumsticks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Expert Tips: Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure proper cooking and crisping.
  • Let the drumsticks rest for about 5 minutes after cooking to hold onto their juices.
  • If using frozen drumsticks, increase the cooking time by 5-7 minutes.
  • If the drumsticks are not crispy, try not to fill the basket too full and use a light spray of oil for better results.
  • Check for doneness with a digital thermometer; chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
  • Reduce the amount of salt in the spice mix if the flavor is too salty for your taste.
  • Reheating Instructions: To reheat chicken drumsticks, place them in the air fryer at 370 degrees F for 3-4 minutes until heated through.
