Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup (100g) white sugar
- 1/2 cup (110g) brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/21/2 teaspoons (7.5ml) vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) honey or molasses
- 1 1/4 cups (156g) all-purpose flour
- 1/21/2 teaspoon (2.5g) cinnamon
- 1/21/2 teaspoon (2.5g) baking soda
- 1/41/2 teaspoon (1.25g) salt
- 1 cup (100g) quick oats
- 1/2 cup (50g) old-fashioned oats
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees F and let it preheat while you prepare the dough. A well-preheated oven is crucial for achieving that soft center in the cookies.
- Scoop & Shape Dough: Start by scooping out the cookie dough into small balls, making sure they look uniform and glossy. Do not compact the dough too tightly, as this may result in dense cookies.
- Align on Baking Sheet: Place your dough balls spaced evenly on a lined baking sheet, ensuring there is enough space between them so they can spread a bit during baking.
- Bake to Chewy Perfection: Pop the baking sheet into the oven and let it bake for around 12 to 13 minutes. Watch for them to turn golden around the edges. Take them out when they look slightly underbaked to preserve their chewiness.
- Cool & Enjoy: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. They should be soft, which is desired. Avoid moving them too soon, as they might crumble apart.
Notes
- Storage Tips: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Baked cookies can be frozen for 2 months.
- Expert Tips: Use both quick oats and old-fashioned oats for the best texture. Lining your baking sheets with parchment paper helps prevent overbaking and ensures a nice soft bottom.
- Reheating Instructions: If you have leftover cookies, gently warm them in the oven at 300 degrees F for about 5 minutes to regain softness.
- Serving Suggestions: Pair with a glass of milk for a classic treat. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top. They are great for lunchboxes alongside a piece of fruit.
- Recipe Variations: Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips for a sweet twist. Incorporate raisins for an oatmeal raisin version. Replace honey with maple syrup for a different flavor.
- Ingredient Notes: For gluten-free cookies, use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend instead of regular flour. Margarine can be substituted for butter, but it may slightly alter the texture.
